The Armoury is the one of the world's most respected retailers and authority on classic menswear. With a heart to preserve the culture of this generation of tailors and their craft, the Armoury has partnered up with BNV to digitise patterns and details of iconic tailoring pieces that would otherwise be victim to time. Other than serving as inspiration and reference for future design teams, these pieces would serve to capture some of the romance as a wearable piece for this new world.
The first item is a beautiful morning coat bespoke in Vienna back in the 1930s. One can imagine the gentleman who bespoke this fine piece must have worn it to many fine evenings including perhaps the inauguration of the first Viennese state Opera Ball. The exquisite detail and pattern work of the morning coat is something to be marvelled at, cut in a way to accentuate the wearer’s shoulders and silhouette in the most flattering way possible. Patterns like this are hardly easy to imitate even with modern tailors, and to have this piece preserved for posterity is a fortunate meeting of tradition and technology.
